Weathered shutters and a coral accent evoke a beach cottage style,
without going way of a theme.

Light, natural colors with sand hued accents create this relaxing and cohesive space.

Fall Centerpiece Idea with a Beach Style Alternative

Friday, October 10, 2014

Although we love tradition, there is just something about orange pumpkins that doesn't appeal to us (or our beach style). All hail the great white pumpkin!

We love bringing the outdoors in and this centerpiece does just that.

Using a natural fabric table runner, arrange white pumpkins and gourds in clusters. Varied sizes work best and elevating a few is even better.

Then place your candles throughout and fill in using twigs, leaves and moss.

For a beach style alternative, replace the moss and instead nest the pumpkins on sand; replace the leaves for seashells and the twigs for driftwood. This will give you a fall and Thanksgiving centerpiece, while maintaining your beach style.

Pin of the Week: Sprigs of Spring

Thursday, April 10, 2014

http://www.pinterest.com/seasideinspired/decorating-with-flowers/

Decorate with sprigs of Spring.

Add some outdoor life to the mantel or a sofa table, even the center of your dining table with sprigs of ferns, blooming branches or flowers from your landscape.

Varied heights and even a variety of colored vessels will make for a fabulous display.

I don't recommend mixing the vase materials though. Use all glass vessels or all pottery vessels, rather than mixing. Bring the interest of mix and match in with height and color.

Pin of the Week: Rustic Beach Style

Friday, January 24, 2014

I've discovered and fallen in love with the mixture of rustic, natural elements with soft soothing seaside hues for a casual, right at home feeling.

The above photo is an example of how rustic and beach style work together in creating a comfortable combination.

A soft, soothing element was achieved in the choice of a light blue wall color. A chic addition of horizontal stripes below the chair rail give added interest. The stripe pillow repeats and gives a soft accent to the wood chair.

The rustic element comes from not only the materials, but the textures. In this example, a rough sawn table, woven wood chair and jute rug provide a natural color palette as well as abundance of texture to the space.

Try experimenting and infuse a little rustic, natural element into your beach décor and see if it gives you an extra warm and casual feel.

If you prefer to just dip your toes into Rustic Beach Style, try adding just a few rustic accents. I would recommend using some of our driftwood decor. It gives you the natural rustic element, but still maintains the beach theme.

You are welcome to follow our newest Pinterest Board, Rustic Beach Style where we will continue seeking and pinning more examples of this new design style.

Pin of the Week: A serving of Christmas classics

Saturday, December 14, 2013

http://www.pinterest.com/seasideinspired/christmas-ideas-decorating-recipes/

To us, there is nothing that warms the heart more than giving new life (and love) to something old.

And this idea, warms our hearts....

Using Grandmother or Mothers old silver tray, cream and sugar bowl honors their memory, while giving a home to candy canes and sticks to stir coffee or hot chocolate.

Decorate your coffee nook this Christmas season with a touch of love and remembrance of family.

Pin of the Week: Simple Christmas Display

Friday, December 6, 2013

The simple things are sometimes the most fulfilling.

We love the use of old wooden nautical crates and orchard baskets to display and store blankets and extra pillows.

The accent of an evergreen tree, adds a Winter touch.
Add vintage ornaments or some twinkle lights to give it some Christmas cheer.
And while you're at it, cluster some of the twinkle lights inside the basket with a few hanging over the edge.

Pin of the Week: Decorating with Pumpkins

Friday, October 25, 2013

Easy and unique ways to use pumpkins in your Halloween and Fall decorating.

Create a unique (and easy) Sleepy Hollow pumpkin.

Place a black hat atop a white pumpkin. Write "Ichabod" using a black sharpie pen and display on a table or chair on the front porch or accent a foyer table indoors.

A simple bowl of mini white pumpkins add a festive touch to Fall decorating without having to use traditional orange, which may not match your design style.

Tie twine or rope around some of the stems for added interest.

Easy, no carve pumpkin decorating using upholstery tacks, nail heads or thumb tacks.

Create a design that mimics a pillow or fabric within the room; a monogram or even your house numbers.

Pin of the Week: Casual Beach Cottage Dining

Friday, October 4, 2013

from our Beach Cottage Pinterest Board

We love the casual and personalized feel of this Beach Cottage dining space.

The handwritten phrase on the wall acts as art and creates personalization to the space. If you're afraid of committing to a permanent quote or phrase, paint the wall with a light colored chalkboard paint instead.

The simple dining table and bench, mixed with folding chairs lends to the casual style and practically begs for wet bathing suits and sandy feet to sit, relax and enjoy.
